About Us

Spirit of the Land Foundation works for the preservation and promotion of the artistic and Cultural Traditions of Australian Aboriginal peoples and intercultural sharing between all peoples.

Meeting this challenge, the Foundation is currently focusing its' work in three major areas:

  • The recording and publishing cultural material
  • Facilitation of events that foster intercultural understanding
  • Intergenerational learning

Spirit of the Land Foundation was established in 1997 with the aims of preserving and promoting Australian Aboriginal knowledge and culture, as well as building bridges of understanding between Indigenous and Western cultures.

The Foundation grew from the joint vision of its founders; Nganyinytja O.A.M, an elder of the Pitjantjatjara Tribe who is a respected aboriginal activist and educator, and her friend Dr. Diana James, an anthropologist who has worked with Central Australian indigenous communities since 1975.

We are constantly working to build relationships Australia wide with Indigenous communities from remote areas, such as Central Australia and Arnhem Land through to regional and urban areas.
